María

María is 13 years old and is in fourth grade. This is her first year at Chispas of Change. María’s favorite part of Chispas is the food because here she has eaten so many foods that she had never tried before. She also likes all of the fun activities that we do here at Chispas.

María lives with her grandparents, her siblings, and her niece. After school, she likes to watch TV and sleep. She says that she prefers to be at Chispas rather than at home. On Saturdays, she likes to eat tamales. Her favorite food is the estofado that her mother makes.

María wants to be a cadet in the military when she grows up because cadets are very strict and enforce discipline for everyone. Her goal is to learn all of the multiplication tables and show her mother that she really can move ahead in life.
